the Bureau of (Extraordinary) Mind Travel is a conceptual framework exploring cultural-historical ideas underlying human relation to nature. By means of collective dream experiments, hypnosis events, and re-enactments the work aims to understand the creation of myth and allegories and how elements of power and desire manifest within the realm of the imaginary and the subconscious.

A first investigation by the Bureau was carried out in a mountain village in 2010. In a hypnosis event - simultaneously broadcasted on local radio – the possible allegories of the surrounding woodland and it's inhabitant was brought to attention as a group of participant, under trance, was guided to an encounter with a wild animal. As participants where laying together on the floor dressed in hand-made garments decorated with representatives of the Alchemical Fauna, the hypnosis opened up for several undertakings or interactions between the person and the imagined animal. By simultaneously broadcasting the hypnosis on local radio, the event became accessible to far-off participants but perhaps also allowed for an echo of the collective subconscious to be channelled out into the surrounding valley.

Participants where asked to share part of their experience in a questionnaire reflecting upon animistic or spiritual qualities of nature.
